SEO Guidelines for your ECommerce Business

Today, you can buy and sell almost anything online. E-commerce sites are constantly growing expectation of increase in its growth is obvious in the near future. As a result, competition is increasing and advertising through the Internet is becoming difficult day buy day. Search engines are constantly struggling to track e-commerce sites due to poor or obsolete site optimization. However, if the strategies are effective and implemented effectively, your chances of success on the internet and to stand out from the competition will be brighter. The following 15 tips for E-commerce SEO will help you increase your business exposure and visibility on search engines.

1. Optimized URL

When choosing your URL, try to include specific keywords that describe the product. Note that you can create subdirectories if there are similar products within a category. For example, if you are selling shoes, you may have a subdirectory of boots, one for sandals, etc, but make sure you add the keyword to the specific product.

2. Session IDs in URLs

When you configure the URLs, try to avoid using session IDs. These types of URLs create difficulty for search engines to crawl and index.

3. Title tags (Title Tags)

Be specific and write original labels of its title. Create unique title tags for each page of the website. Put the name of the product and a unique keyword that describes the product (if applicable) as a single trait or characteristic. This makes it easier to identify articles making it more SEO optimized. The name of the company should be added at the end of the main keywords for brand recognition. (Example: Prada boots, red leather | Name of Company)

4. Images and Logo

The usage of images is essential for any ecommerce site. Visitors are very much into looking at the photos of the products they are interested in. These images even though being static provide a great opportunity to add keywords in your alt tags. Be specific to the product when optimizing the images on your website. The excess of keywords on your site can be counterproductive.

5. Internal Links

If you have some images with links to other pages within your website, use those images, and add an alt tag with a keyword for the product page. The same should also apply to the logo. It is recommended that the logo should be used within all pages on the top with an internal link to the homepage.

6. Site Map (sitemap)

The e-commerce websites are usually larger websites. Therefore, it is difficult for search engines to crawl and index all pages of your site. Sitemaps are a great tool to tell the location and number of pages to search engine crawlers. If you have more than 500 hundred pages, consider creating a sitemap, or simply organize the pages alphabetically or by category within a sitemap. Both, html and xml sitemaps are strongly recommended in that case.
