7 Billion and Me

The 7 Billion Actions campaign was created by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to mark the historic moment when the world’s population topped seven billion people in October 2011. The campaign was a global movement to inspire change by highlighting positive actions individuals and organizations could take that would make a difference around the world. The 7 Billion Actions campaign had two key objectives: to build global awareness around the opportunities and challenges associated with a world of seven billion people and to inspire governments, NGOs, private sector, media, academia and individuals to take actions that will have a socially positive impact. As part of that larger campaign, the 7 Billion & Me website needed to personalize the campaign by creating awareness on the individual level.

Website visitors input key facts about themselves and the site reveals several ways they fit into the world’s population of 7 billion people. It provides facts and figures with visual representations, such as how many people in the world were born before you or how many people were born in your hometown after you. In addition to this interactive infographic, the site features a real time population clock.
