Pixelgems Client Review

A review of Wedsite Developers Pixelgems Inc, Chilliwack BC. We hired Pixelgems to complete our project on Sept 10, 2013 more than four months ago. Initially after speaking to the owner we were under the impression that we were dealing with a professional company, finally after a long search we had found the company with the qualifications and drive to make our site a reality. A service that would allow friends and family to raise money for loved one's, from an unexpected disease, disability, autistic support, natural disasters, memorial, veterans, pets, charities, schools, you name it. It's now January 29th, 2014 more than four months later. We have cut ties with Pixelgems after being forced to sign a release document created by the owner in order to obtain the code we had already paid for. We attempted to make the document fair for both parties however the owner would not make any considerations or deliver our work without a signature. We were left with no choice in the matter. We decided to take the partially completed work reviewed by a reputable, qualified company only to find that standard web development protocols and security issues were not followed from the start of our development. Although we brought code to Pixelgems that required customization it was their work and alterations that were reviewed. To put it bluntly the company stated our time and expense was wasted and that nothing aside from a small portion of partially complete HTML could be salvaged. We paid Pixelgems the majority of our budget to create our service. These payments were set out from the start in four weekly payments with deliverables stated weekly. The project timeline was set to be completed in no more than four weeks. From the beginning the project was mismanaged leaving us playing a project management role which no client should be responsible for. We became concerned very early on in the project considering we were not seeing deliverables matching our payments. By the second payment we stated our concerns. Excuses were made and the owner of Pixelgems stated his programmer was working on security flaws within the existing code we purchased prior to working with this company. .The first step to working with Pixelgems was to have the code reviewed, to ensure it would be customized could customized to our service. The owner stated it was within their scope of ability " send us the first payment and we can get started. " We learned three weeks later after reluctantly paying 3/4 of the project expense that they had not reviewed the code and declaring the project was larger than anticipated. Every attempt was made to collect our money as quickly as possible including the last and final payment which we refused to pay until the project was complete, they did not finish the work three months past the deadline they set. Jump ahead four months and a confession to committing only 64 hours to our project averaging four hours a week. We are sad to say we have no usable code, we have lost the majority of our investment, left without a service to offer and our dream in shambles. We asked Pixelgems to fix their work or refund our money however they refuse to respond. This is a company that does not guarantee their work. At the end of the day our only solution is to start over when we can save enough money, a little wiser this time around. We felt it is important to educate the public about how this company conduct themselves and a warning if contacting them for build a website. Some points to consider if hiring a website development company, so you don't end up in the same unfortunate predicament. - Research the companies past projects. Ensure that they do clean work and have the skills required. - Set clear deliverables throughout the project and only make a payment once the goal is met. We were constantly cohersed into making payments without results. Excuses were offered, that the employees had to be paid and a company needed to run. In the end it was a pay or we will not continue scenario regardless of not having matched deliverables to payments. - If developing a complex project ask as part of the contract that you can have the work reviewed by another company at intervals. You will need a qualified company to do so who works with the same platform your website is built upon. - If you hear a lot of yes and few no's question why it seems to simple. As we learned if it seems to good to be true it likely is in this industry. - Keep all email correspondence, this shows a pattern and is equally contractual.
